Phoronix: Firefox 80 Available With VA-API On X11, WebGL Parallel Shader Compile Support

Firefox 80.0 is now available. There isn't too much to get excited about with Firefox 80, but at least some changes on the developer front...

How can you check if vaapi used used during video playback?

Firefox 80 absolutely is a massive release. Previous version 79 broke down the existing VA-API support on Wayland, I had to completely disable it in order to be able to play any videos on any websites. Even then the background rendererer process would sometimes just die and I'd have to kill the whole browser eventually. Mozilla released zero bugfixes so I am hoping Fx 80 finally restores hardware acceleration support for video decoding in reality, not just pointless devnotes.

I don't give two fucks about who did it. Open source should not be about fame-hunting for devs, nor it should be about cultist behavior and worshipping false deities for the users.

Set MOZ_LOG variable https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bu...id=1610199#c31 and look into log.

Many of us have moved on from X11, nothing particularly exciting about Firefox better supporting legacy systems. I'd be just as moved if they improved support on Windows 3.1, for comparison.

Partially serious, but yes I know y'all are still using X11 DEs
