Phoronix: Mozilla Punts Servo Web Engine Development To The Linux Foundation

Ever since the mass layoffs at Mozilla earlier this year and some Mozilla projects in jeopardy many have been wondering: what about Servo? Well, today it's heading off to the Linux Foundation...

Not hyped at all over this. Servo is Mozilla's child, design by committee will probably sink it. Not that it got to flying to begin with.

So they sacked all their functional programmers, instead focusing on people who are working on monetization? That isn't a way forward, it's the path for fighting for survival.

Don't worry - soon enough the Firefox diehards will arrive in this thread to try and convince you otherwise

I'm a Firefox die-hard. But if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck...
Let's be honest here, Servo was supposed to be the new heart of Firefox. Who in their right mind announces they just ripped their heart out and donated it for safe-keeping?

Servo was just a small project that got overhyped by people online, it was never 'the future of firefox' as some people claimed. The bulk of the engine devs work on Gecko and they are still there.

Well, at least it was not transferred to Apache Foundation... In that case, it would be dead, 100%...

However, I don't remember any relevant free project under Linux Foundation Umbrella... I don't consider Linux in that bucket...

Why does Firefox need its core replaced every few years anyway?

                    1. "puts" not "punts"
                    2. sadly, on both deskotp (linux) and smartphone edge works way better.
