At the start of March AMD announced the Radeon RX 6700 XT as their new RDNA2 graphics card starting out at $479 USD. Tomorrow the RX 6700 XT is going on sale while today marks the embargo lift on reviews. We have been testing the Radeon RX 6700 XT over the past two weeks and have up our initial Linux support experience and gaming benchmark results to share.

All depends on the ones with nice built-in automated benchmark capabilities.....

Some Proton games were left out this round due to the NVIDIA driver running into issues with latest Steam Play on Hitman 2 / Strange Brigade / etc.

GPU power consumption graph shows what i feared. 1/3rd less gpu cores then RX6800 and much higher frequency means that power consumption on average is the same as RX6800 despite having 1/3 times smaller chip in compute units. That also means OC margin is much smaller comparing to 6800/6800XT that OCs pretty well.

I wonder if AMD does it because of wafer shortage (smaller chip, more chips out of one wafer) or purely business BS.

Except that card is priced simply to compete with RTX3070, not outcompete.

I think that looking at RX6800/6800XT scores vs 3080, and RX6700XT vs 2080TI(where 3070 should be) 6700XT is priced worse then 6800/6800XT(those 2 are great) in terms of MSRP, but if RX6700XT will be on shelves at close to MSRP price and if will be at shelves at all will more determine if that is great card or not.

Most games unfortunately don't have built-in benchmarks and more video-focused ones tend to just go in and record gameplay with performance analysis either during runtime or added in post production. The latter type of test doesn't yield easily quantifiable numbers, which is what a text-based reviews site like Phoronix needs. Making his own benchmarks using recorded and replayed input may be something worth looking into, but this is not a games focused outlet so it may be a little too much to ask.

On topic: Nice to see hardware working this well out-of-the-box, but having looked at the raw specs (cut down memory bus, cache and 40 CUs compared to 60-80) when the card was announced this result was pretty much exactly in line with what I expected. Decent enough performance, but when compared to Nvidia equivalents at MSRP prices this card just isn't price competitive.

Thou this will probably sell out regardless due to the massive under-supply that has driven actual retail prices completely crazy (RTX 3070s at almost 1000€, etc.) and if they are sold at MSRP or close to it (they apparently delayed it from January launch to build up stock for a proper launch) then it will be better value than Nvidia's equivalents at the prices they go for at retail.

A geometric score that doesn't include 1080p or RayTracing for obvious reasons.

According to lowyat review where 1080p CONTROL FPS data is included, you can clearly see the reversal in frame rates just because VRAM buffer isn't busted at 1080p for GA104 8GB.

The geometric score also doesn't include use case of 1080P DLSS 2.0 upscaling to 4K benchmarks, where 4K should be done with DLSS 2.0 on GA104 8GB to not bust VRAM buffer.

But what does AMD say about this? I had a look at their press releases and I found nothing. CPU, GPU.... it's the core of their business and we have no information. Will they deliver in one week or in 6 months? What do they say about it?
