Phoronix: Mesa 21.3 Lands Initial Radeon Ray-Tracing Support In Open-Source RADV Vulkan Driver

Landing overnight into Mesa 21.3 was experimentally enabling the Vulkan ray-tracing extensions within the open-source Radeon "RADV" driver...

Well.. Soon we will have two RT implementations in Open-Source drivers, when AMD will update their AMDVLK...

I'm just happy if it's ready for the 7000-series next year. RT performance is pretty bad on 6000 on windows too.

I wish there were some free, open source game with support for ray tracing.

When SuperTuxKart gets its renderer re-written in Vulkan, it's always possible that ray-tracing could be added. I'm hoping so personally, I need to put my laptop's RTX 3060 to good use :P

3 Technically since Nvidia has one also even if it is a blob...

Unfortunately this is coded fairly close to Nvidia hardware so tends to run badly on AMD for no real reason.

Personally I wish SuperTux would use a cel-shading renderer like used in Warsow to get it a more cartoonish/playful look.
