The Arch Linux based CachyOS Linux distribution aims to be a "blazingly fast and customizable Linux distribution" that is aggressive with its performance optimizations. CachyOS takes to leveraging compiler optimizations like Link-Time Optimizations (LTO), the BORE scheduler, and also offering package archives compiled for x86-64-v3 and x86-64-v4 in allowing the distribution's packages to be catered toward newer Intel and AMD processors. In this article is a comparison of CachyOS packages from their main archive, the x86-64-v3 optimized packages, and then the x86-64-v4 wares that can be beneficial for modern Intel Xeon and AMD EPYC / AMD Ryzen systems.

Hi Michael,

Thank you very much for these benchmarks and your time.
Quite good visible, that x86-64-v4 is very code specific optimization.

Looking at the code compilation time (e.G GCC ) comes improvements that we use a customized version of GCC, which does enable PGO, which arch has disabled in the past.
Same counts for PHP, were we recently added PGO.

When evaluating the Zstd performance based on the binaries supplied by CacheOS, there didn't end up being any real performance difference.

Some desktop centric benchmarks for system responsiveness would be far more interesting for future tests (e.g. audio latency, input lag test & system usability under load) Michael

There is also ALPH x86-64-v4 repository for pure Arch Linux.

There is also ALPH x86-64-v4 repository for pure Arch Linux.

The CachyOS repos can be as well used for "pure". We extra have arch only packages in "cachyos-core-v3", "cachyos-extra-v3" and same for v4. There are not any PKGBUILDs changed and an plain rebuild.
In cachyos-v3 and cachyos-v4 are some customized packages to enable PGO and other optimization/changes on these.
