Phoronix: Fedora Miracle Spin Proposed For Fedora 41

Not to be confused with Fedora's "Beefy Miracle" from a decade ago during their entertaining codename days, but a Fedora Miracle spin has been proposed for the now-open Fedora 41 development cycle...

Isn't it easier to provide meta-packages which install necessary/recommended components (miracle-config, miracle-pkgs) rather than maintaining different editions of a distro?

No point to maintain a separate spin for it, just add the packages and configs to repo, and whoever would want it, would install it on it's own.

It is not either/or, it is both. Fedora already provides a group install method for all the packages that are available in these spins so there is nothing stopping you from using it that way but many of them do more than just provide a bunch of packages. They modify configuration to cater to the needs of the spin. Besides that, if you are going to a scientific conference for example, having the scientific lab is a good to showcase. Having said that, if the usage doesn't warrant it, they shouldn't do it.

Thats funny, Fedora becoming the de-facto distro for Canonical's Mir. Weren't Fedora also looking into using Miriway to get MATE and Xfce onto Wayland so they can discontinue XOrg even faster?

The latter was done by Canonical. Fedora appears to have third party repo packages but doesn't look like it is involved formally.

I get that being an official spin provides a lot of free marketing for your DE / WM and increases awareness and interest. But this one seems like a stretch. A 0.2 version of yet another freaking tiling window manager? That's what the Fedora Everything netinstall ISO is for. Sway makes sense as an official spin. There's a comparatively large user base and lots of community interest.

Fedora is a community project, anyone can make a spin and it stays as long as someone wants to maintain it.

If they want to make a atomic desktop they need a spin.

Anyone can propose a spin, that doesn't mean they all will be or all should be accepted. Ending up with 83 different spins for every window manager out there isn't a desirable goal. Again, you can easily install these environments that 5 people use through the Everything netinstall ISO.
