    It's been a while since last testing Windows 10 vs. Linux on different, newer Linux game ports with a variety of GPUs, but that changed this week. As mentioned this weekend, I've been working on a large, fresh Windows vs. Linux gaming performance comparison. The results available today are for NVIDIA with testing a GeForce GTX 1060 and GTX 1080 on Windows 10 Pro x64 and Ubuntu 16.10 x86_64 with the latest drivers and using a variety of newer Direct3D 11/12 / OpenGL / Vulkan games.

        conclusions:
        1 opengl performance is about the same on linux and windows
        2 directx games are more optimized
        3 nvidia sucks at dx12
        4 linux ports are bad (but better than some time ago)

          Any update on Civ 6's multi-threading? I read in a bunch of places that it's single threaded, but I have a 4 core/8 thread Intel CPU, and I've seen it using 30%+ in System Monitor.

          Edit - Meant Civ 6.

            NVIDIA's proprietary driver already has its own threading implementation.

              Meant with Civ 6, sorry. What I've read about it (mostly on here and GoL) being just single threaded and only using a single CPU hasn't matched up with what I've seen when I've been playing it.

                Grid autosport is a very well optimized game so the directx wrapper port isn't a big problem. I just bought Civ VI and since it isn't a FPS, the performance is acceptable.
                But these DirectX wrapper Feral games aren't a good showcase for Linux as a gaming platform, since the performance is bad. ;(
                And gamers really care about performance.

                  A little disappointing. I remember there was a time where Linux outperformed Windows in most tests for Nvidia, but, there were a lot fewer AAA titles tested at the time.

                  At the very least, it's interesting to see how tests that likely aren't optimized by Nvidia (or not much anyway) seem to close the performance gap.

                    That is, on a modern 4.2 GHz Core-i7. I can't even hit a stable 30 FPS in that game with my old Phenom, while getting a solid 60 on Windows. Most of these Linux ports require far more CPU power than the native Windows version.
