AMD EPYC Performance With FreeBSD 13 Beta
This FreeBSD 13 BETA benchmarking on the AMD Supermicro server wasn't nearly as dramatic as what we saw with the Intel performance on FreeBSD 13 BETA1, presumably due to the Intel hardware P-states support.
When carrying out 118 benchmarks on FreeBSD 12.2 vs. 13 BETA1 with this EPYC server, the results were split...
Even taking the geometric mean of all the benchmark results equate to a similar outcome. But as shown for some workloads there still is uplift to see in using FreeBSD 13 on AMD EPYC hardware, just not as widespread of an improvement as seen from the Intel testing. All 118 benchmark results for this AMD EPYC 7F52 comparison on the Supermicro board can be found via this OpenBenchmarking.org result file.
Comparing FreeBSD 13 between AMD EPYC and Intel Xeon CPUs along with comparing to the Linux distribution performance will come after the official FreeBSD 13.0 release is out in March.
