In scientific workloads like Parboil and Rodinia, the Threadripper 2950X comes out around a few percent faster than the Threadripper 1950X. That's nice while launching at the $899 USD price-point compared to $999 when the Threadripper 1950X debuted a year ago.

With John The Ripper crypto tests, the 2950X comes in at 8% faster than the 1950X. But what's more interesting in these benchmarks is the spread now between the Threadripper 1950X and the Core i9 7900X. As of writing, Intel is still selling this 10-core + HT CPU for $925 USD... While in a threaded workload like John The Ripper, the 2950X is 46% faster.

In the DES test with John, the Threadripper 2950X manages to come out 30% faster than its predecessor.

The x265 video encoding performance comes in at 8% faster with the 2950X over the 1950X while being 30% faster than the Core i9 7900X.
