Vulkan vs. OpenGL On Linux With Core i5, Core i7, Ryzen 7
The Talos Principle performance saw the RADV Vulkan performance being slightly faster on the Core i7 and Ryzen 7 boxes while being more prominent on the Core i5.
Lastly, here's a look at the CPU usage impact over the course of all the Vulkan/OpenGL Linux tests run on the three systems:
The average CPU usage on the Core i5 7600K dropped from 47% to 35% when moving from OpenGL to Vulkan, the Ryzen 7 1800X went from 14% to 10%, and the Core i7 7700K went from 26% to 16%. The reduced CPU utilization is nice with Vulkan while hopefully the Vulkan frame-rates will go up in the near future with the continued optimizations to the open-source RADV Vulkan driver.
