Intel's Open-Source Compute Runtime Performing Increasingly Well Against NVIDIA's Proprietary Linux Driver
Kicking things off with Hashcat it was quite interesting to see how well the Intel Arc Graphics performance atop the open-source Intel Compute Runtime has evolved... While MD5 is less applicable these days, the Arc Graphics A770 performance in this hashing test matched that of the RTX 3060 Ti while the Arc Graphics A750 matched the RTX 4060.
On a performance-per-Watt basis the Intel Arc Graphics were comparable to the RTX 30 series and RTX 4060 with the exception of the RTX 3070 being the notable front-runner.
On a performance-per-dollar basis, the Intel Arc A580, A750, and A770 were leading in this particular test.
With the SHA-512 hashing test on the GPUs, the Intel Arc Graphics weren't as compelling as with MD5 but overall still performing rather nicely with the Arc A770 nearly matching the RTX 4060. The new Arc Graphics A580 graphics card that can be found for around $179 was providing great value.
The Arc Graphics OpenCL performance has evolved into quite dependable shape over the past year. Besides the performance and great value, the Intel Arc Graphics is also running on fully open-source drivers and compute stack compared to NVIDIA's proprietary driver stack.
