With sequential writes via the Threaded I/O Tester, the SSDPE21D280GA was basically twice as fast as the Optane Memory 32GB and many times faster than any of the other SSDs benchmarked on this Tyan + AMD EPYC server box running Ubuntu 17.10.

The random write performance measured by Threaded I/O Tester is even much faster... The extremely high speed reported is due to running four instances of Tiobench.

Wow wow wow, the Intel Optane 900P series really lives up to the hype and that of the 3D XPoint memory. The performance offered by the Intel Optane 900P 280GB SSD was incredible and stunning. Besides delivering the fastest results of the drives we had available for testing, the 900P carries the best endurance rating of the drives as well at more than five petabytes.

The only real downside of the 900P series though is the price that is around $400 USD for 280GB or $600 for 480GB via retailers like Amazon and NewEgg. Stay tuned for various other Intel Optane 900P Linux benchmarks with different file-systems and tuning in follow-up articles on Phoronix along with other I/O workloads.

It will certainly be interesting to see what more comes of 3D XPoint memory in 2018.
