Mesa 11.1-dev Tests With The Reverted RadeonSI Performance
This week I posted some AMD RadeonSI/R600g tests on Mesa 11.0 with DRM-Next along with a Intel Skylake vs. Radeon comparison using this new version of Mesa that will be officially released next month. Of course, following those tests, the requests turned to testing Mesa 11.1-devel rather than the Mesa 11.0 Git code.
The Mesa 11.1-dev Git Code has a revert for fixing poor performance. Marek Olsak of AMD noted, "It regressed performance. It looks like smaller IBs are better, because the GPU goes idle quicker and there is less waiting for buffers and fences." That revert landed a few days ago and is copied for merging into Mesa 11.0, but hasn't yet hit that Git branch. Aside from that, there's been the random assortment of other RadeonSI and core Mesa/Gallium3D updates landing since Mesa 11.0 was branched earlier this month.
So for today's Linux benchmarking I ran a comparison of Mesa 11.0-rc1 to the current Mesa Git master as of today. The DRM-Next for Linux 4.3 was still in use on the kernel side along with the LLVM 3.8.0 SVN code for the AMDGPU back-end. All benchmarks were done via the open-source Phoronix Test Suite software.
