4K random reads came in at 481k IOPS under Linux with FIO using IO_uring, just under the 500k rated and in-line with drives like the aging MP600 and Rocket 4 while being well aead of the 500GB Samsung 970 EVO. The WD_BLACK SN850 continues reigning supreme under Linux when it comes to consumer drivers.

With the other FIO IO_uring benchmarks, the Samsung 980 performance came in around or slightly better than the older Samsung 970 EVO / EVO Plus drives tested.

Of course, if you can afford it, going for the higher-end drives certainly will pay off for the heavy I/O workloads... Sans the currently unresolved Linux issues with the 980 PRO and Rocket 4 Plus.

The WD_BLACK SN850 for the moment is overall the best performing consumer drive we are running several of on a daily basis.
