Well, that's our first look at Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor on Linux! Hopefully Feral Games will be able to improve the few remaining bits to make this game more ideal for test automation so we're able to include it in more GPU/driver/hardware tests in the future on Phoronix. If it happens, right away I'll certainly run a much larger graphics card comparison.
Aside from the AMD Catalyst issues, Shadow of Mordor has been running great in the hours spent so far running this game on Linux for testing with the proprietary NVIDIA driver. Assuming the test improvements are made, once Mesa/Gallium3D has OpenGL 4.3+ I look forward to seeing how the open-source driver performance is for this latest AAA game. Given the results, all but the most casual Linux gamers will want a very powerful NVIDIA GeForce graphics card for running this game well...
If you appreciate all of the Linux benchmarks done day-in and day-out at Phoronix by your's truly, please consider subscribing to Phoronix Premium or making a PayPal tip. If there is enough support from courteous Phoronix readers, I may even manually run this game on more NVIDIA graphics cards in the next day(s). Stay tuned to the latest Linux hardware reviews and benchmarks via Facebook and Twitter.
