The Radeon RX Vega Makes A Nod To Linux

So what got me smiling about the box? It mentions Linux support! No big deal really considering they have supported Linux with their different drivers, formerly Catalyst/fglrx, then the open-source Radeon DRM + R300g/R600g Gallium drivers, and now of course AMDGPU+RadeonSI or the AMDGPU-PRO hybrid driver... They have continued improving their Linux support over the past decade but particularly in the past two years or so and striking several milestones this calendar year. There was never a question of Linux support for the RX Vega, but it's been rare to see Linux mentioned on Radeon product packaging.

Going back to the Radeon HD 4800 series launch in 2008, I was told at the RV770 launch event by AMD marketing staff how they were to step up their Linux support (and hence why I was invited to this event) and they would even be encouraging their AIB partners to mention Linux support (or showing the Tux icon) on their product packaging. As well as how they would be encouraging their partners to put Linux drivers on their CDs. In the nine years since the Radeon HD 4800 series launch, I think I have personally only ever seen Linux mentioned on a Radeon graphics card box once or twice... Now at least Linux is mentioned on this press box for the RX Vega, just a nice gesture with being a pet peeve when receiving new hardware to look for any Linux references.

The Radeon RX Vega 64 looks like an elongated Radeon RX 480 Polaris reference design... And the Radeon RX Vega cards require two 8-pin PCI Express power connectors to satisfy their power appetite.
