X-Plane 11 OpenGL vs. Vulkan

X-Plane 11.50 Beta can still run at 4K with low quality settings even on the older hardware. On the NVIDIA side this configuration yielded similar performance between OpenGL and Vulkan. In this configuration for some cards like the RX 590, RX Vega 56, and some Navi configurations the OpenGL performance was faster while for the RX 5700 XT and Radeon VII the performance was better on Vulkan.

Vulkan began to shine again when cranking up the visual settings at 4K.

Using Vulkan with X-Plane really helped to make the game more playable on a wider variety of graphics cards at 4K when increasing the visual intensity.

Overall, we are quite happy with the X-Plane Vulkan performance so far, especially on the Radeon side where RADV+ACO tends to be much faster than using RadeonSI OpenGL. Even more X-Plane OpenGL/Vulkan benchmarks for those interested via this OpenBenchmarking.org result file.
