With the 7-Zip compression test, the results were also nearly identical between the four tested file-systems. While very minor differences, EXT4 was the fastest followed by EXT3, XFS, and ReiserFS.

When it came to Parallel BZIP 2 compression with a 2GB file to compress, the fastest were XFS and EXT3, which were only represented by a second difference, followed by EXT4 and ReiserFS, which were also separated by less than a second.

Our third and final file compression test was when compressing a 256MB file using LZMA. Here EXT4 was the fastest, but it was less than six seconds that separated the first and last spots.
