A Developer Is Going To Focus On Improving GNU Hurd's Hardware Support

As explained recently in The Current State Of Debian GNU Hurd, PC hardware support by GNU Hurd is pretty piss poor right now with no support for USB yet, sound support being in its early stages, and 64-bit support just being started. However, a developer is hoping to work on improving hardware support for Hurd.

Bruno Félix Rezende Ribeiro wrote to the GNU Hurd developers a few days back that he's fortunate enough to be able to focus on "free software things" of his choice for at least the next six months. Besides helping the GNU project and FSF with some matters, he's planning on spending the rest of his full-time availability on GNU Hurd.

Bruno is specifically hoping to work on improving Hurd's hardware support, "I'm interested in improving Hurd's hardware support, probably working on the development of user-space device drivers, most likely the rump kernel integration. I see that Robert Millan has made some remarkable progress in that area, and I'd like to help."
