LINUX KERNEL
The DRM kernel graphics/display driver updates were sent in today for the ongoing Linux 5.12 merge window. Two of the biggest features are VRR/Adaptive-Sync now being supported for Intel Gen12/Xe Graphics while on the AMD side there is initial "OverDrive" overclocking support for their newest RDNA 2 GPUs.

We have covered many of the individual kernel graphics driver improvements in recent weeks of this new material for Linux 5.12 while the summary of most interesting work includes:

- Radeon RX 6800/6900 "Sienna Cichlid" series OverDrive overclocking support.

- FP16 pixel support for various generations of AMD GPUs.

- GPU reset support for Navy Flounder and Van Gogh AMD APUs.

- A big Nouveau driver change in inching towards open-source accelerated NVIDIA Ampere GPU support.

- VRR / AdaptiveSync is now enabled for Tiger Lake / Gen12 graphics and newer when connected via DisplayPort or eDP.

- Intel fixes around the Rocket Lake graphics support. Also on the new hardware front are hang fixes for the Intel DG1 discrete graphics card.

- Intel display power management improvements. There is also Intel eDP backlight control support using Intel's proprietary interface.

- Intel Tiger Lake clear color support.

- Ongoing Intel graphics fixes around the Ivy Bridge / Bay Trail fixing for the "iGPU Leak" vulnerability with clearing residual contexts. Hopefully now the code is in good shape... The Intel graphics driver also now allows an option for disabling the graphics security mitigations with their driver.

- The Intel GMA500 DRM driver has dropped GMA 3600 support found with Cedar Trail SoCs as part of older Intel MID era platforms seeing the support removed from the mainline kernel.

- Intel async page flipping should work for all Intel graphics hardware now from Ironlake to present.

- DisplayPort to HDMI 2.1 protocol converter support in the DRM code.

The full list of DRM changes slated for the Linux 5.12 merge window are outlined via this pull request.
