Red Hat has quietly been working on PipeWire for years that is like the "video equivalent of PulseAudio" while now it's ready to make its initial debut in Fedora 27 and the project now has an official website.

Pipewire has been talked about a few times in recent months while Red Hat's Christian Schaller wrote a blog post today about Launching Pipewire!

In there he explains the background of needing something like PulseAudio but for video in order to securely accomodate Flatpak video needs, support professional audio use-cases, and with the shift to Wayland having a new mechanism for handling screen capture in a secure manner. Pipewire is what's being used by the brand new GNOME screencasting and remote desktop functionality in Mutter.

Fedora Workstation 27 will offer the initial Pipewire implementation just for video use-cases, as needed by Flatpak and Wayland, while the audio side is still being tackled.

More details via Christian's blog. The PipeWire website with more details on the project is now live on PipeWire.org.
