Last month Red Hat announced no-cost Red Hat Enterprise Linux for small production environments while now they have extended their gratis RHEL offering to also include "open-source infrastructure" being entitled to no-cost usage.

With CentOS 8 going EOL at the end of the year to focus on CentOS Stream, many were turned off by that with often relying on CentOS in a production environment to escape the costs associated with Red Hat Enterprise Linux. So last month Red Hat announced its RHEL Developer subscription would be supported in a production environment up to sixteen systems. The latest push by Red Hat to provide no-cost RHEL in select instances is the "RHEL for Open-Source Infrastructure" announced today.

Eligible organizations will be able to enjoy no-cost RHEL for use within their infrastructure like for continuous integration and even for web servers and more. Red Hat explained in today's announcement, "Under the program’s terms, eligible organizations will be granted access to no-cost RHEL subscriptions for any use within the confines of their infrastructure. This includes build systems, continuous integration (CI) testing and general project requirements (i.e. web servers, mail servers, etc.). These subscriptions will be self-supported by default, which provides full access to the Red Hat customer portal, knowledge base articles and forums, and also include Red Hat Insights, our proactive analytic tooling. We may also be able to offer no-cost support depending on the scope and nature of the organization."

As for the eligible organizations, "open source projects and other organizations that support the production of open source software. Generally, all software distributed under a Fedora-approved license is considered open source for the purposes of this program." RHEL for Open-Source Infrastructure also isn't intended for individual developers.
