Warzone 2100, the real-time strategy/tactics game released for Windows back in 1999 and then brought to Linux after the commercial game was open-sourced several years later, is now seeing a Vulkan renderer in the works.

Warzone 2100 was originally released during the days when the system requirements were a 166MHz processor and 32MB of RAM. Even with Warzone 2100's current use of OpenGL, the requirements remain very light while now there is an experimental Vulkan renderer in the works.

A Phoronix reader pointed us to this forum thread about the Vulkan renderer branch being worked on for this open-source game.

The renderer is working but not without some bugs. Also, at the moment, the Vulkan renderer build is Windows-only although is just a temporary restriction. Check out that thread if you are curious about this yet another older game seeing the Vulkan treatment by the open-source community.
