The X.Org merger with the SPI is almost complete and the X.Org Foundation is soon going to begin accepting donations.

Years ago the X.Org Foundation relied upon donations from Sun Microsystems, Intel, and the other big names to assemble their war-chest, but in the past few years they haven't really been pursuing donations from these big companies while their expenditures have continued with the annual XDC conference, X.org EVoC, travel expenses, and other costs.

Now under the SPI space, the X.Org Foundation is going to begin accepting donations. This time around they are soliciting donations via PayPal and thus seem to be going after random donations from individuals rather than the big money contributions from companies. They confirmed via yesterday's board meeting notes they are indeed accepting PayPal donations.

Unfortunately though, there hasn't been an "annual report" from the X.Org Foundation since 2013, per their annual reports so the current financial health of the organization isn't clear. But at least via SPI there should be greater transparency and better organized moving forward...
