Just on the heels of his last blogpost about four years in porting KDE to Wayland, Martin Gräßlin, the long-time Kwin maintainer, has put out another blog post detailing some of the troubles that he and the KDE crew have encountered in their prepping for Wayland.

Chief among those concerns has been how they are going to handle global shortcuts going forward since the X11 way -- taking raw input events from X and passing them through KglobalAccel, basically being an authorized global keylogger -- will no longer work in the Wayland world due to those very security concerns.

Going forward it appears that KglobalAccel will be turned from a daemon into a library and being integrated into Kwin. For X11 the shortcut handling should not be breaking as the existing daemon will be turned into a wrapper around the library.

Additional details, as well as the full blog post, can be found via Martin's blog.
