Intel Video Acceleration Drivers Begin Preparing For Arrow Lake S

While Meteor Lake isn't shipping until December, Intel's open-source Linux engineers for months have already been working on 15th Gen Arrow Lake (as well as Lunar Lake, among their other processor lines) for getting the driver support in order. The latest early hardware enablement to talk about is the initial Arrow Lake S support coming to their video acceleration drivers.

Released today was the Intel oneVPL 2023Q3 release. Notable with this Intel oneVPL driver for Linux systems is the initial Arrow Lake S platform support being upstreamed. This media driver update also enables non-interleaved JPEG decode capabilities, fixing an AV1 encode issue, and other changes.

Similarly, the Intel Media Driver 2023Q3 (23.3.5) release also happened. There is Arrow Lake S support enabled within this Intel VA-API driver plus continued improvements for Meteor Lake and DG2/Alchemist. The Arrow Lake S (ARL-S) support is working, there is now AV1 encode ICQ working on DG2/Alchemist and newer, fixing Meteor Lake VP9 encode for corruption issues, and other fixes. There are also several AV1 encode fixes for DG2/Alchemist and newer.

With this quarter's open-source media/video acceleration updates it's good seeing early Arrow Lake support as well as the number of video encode/decode fixes affecting current generation hardware.
