Intel Finally Releases Updated GPU Tools

It's been a while since Intel last updated their open-source GPU Tools package, but they have now put out the intel-gpu-tools 1.4 release along with a commitment to push out new releases on a quarterly basis.

The Intel GPU Tools 1.4 package integrates a Gen4+ assembler, starts on a performance analysis tool for Intel hardware, a new register dumper, tools to access many new indirect register access functions on newer Intel hardware, a frame-buffer contents dumper for debugging corruption issues, lots of new test-cases, and improvements to the Intel test framework.

The new performance analysis tool part of intel-gpu-tools 1.4 provides X11 and plain KMS front-ends while using the kernel's perf subsystem and GPU performance counter kernel patches. The new register dumper is called quick_dump and is poised to replace the intel_reg_dumper tool.

As implied by the package name, intel-gpu-tools is written against Intel hardware specifications and will not work in troubleshooting or optimizing other open-source graphics drivers.
