Apple Releases OS X 10.11 El Capitan; Want To See Some Linux Benchmarks?
Apple released OS X 10.11 "El Capitan" today as a free update for Apple computer owners. Are you interested in some fresh OS X vs. Linux benchmarks?
My last OS X vs. Linux benchmarks were back in March of this year. With El Capitan, there are a lot of small performance improvements across the board, according to Apple. They describe it, "OS X El Capitan refines the Mac experience and improves performance in a lot of little ways that make a big difference."
Other details on OS X El Capitan changes can be found in my earlier article: OS X "El Capitan" Aims To Offer Better Performance, Metal Graphics.
If there's enough interest, I can run some OS X 10.11 vs. Fedora 23 vs. Ubuntu 15.10 type benchmarks for OpenGL graphics and such. That's limited to the Phoronix Test Suite and OpenBenchmarking.org test profiles that run on Mac, of which there's still a good number of graphics tests. I could do OS X El Capitan vs. Linux vs. Windows 10 three-way, but that'd be a bit time consuming and a bit of a nuisance with most of my current Apple hardware being lower-end Haswell Mac Minis, though for the few tests that play nicely across all three platforms I can see about doing something up if there's enough Phoronix Premium support or from PayPal donors.
