Russia Picks ReactOS As Second OS For Software Freedom

Russia has named various open-source mobile, desktop, and server operating systems to substitute for vendor lock-in / proprietary software currently in use. Interestingly, besides Linux dominating the list, Russia has been evaluating ReactOS -- the project that's long been seeking to be an open-source implementation of Windows.

Russia's IT Ministry has named ROSA Lab / ALT Linux and ReactOS as their preferred client operating systems for reducing vendor lock-in and moving to open-source software. ROSA Desktop is a Linux distribution originally derived from Mandriva Linux and features a customized KDE experience. ROSA's server product meanwhile is based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux. ReactOS meanwhile is the open-source OS project aiming for binary-compatibility with Windows programs and drivers. ReactOS noted being selected as the second client OS choice by Russia via this news announcement.

For mobile operating systems, Russia's IT Ministry has named Jolla with their Sailfish OS and Tizen.
