The Performance Gains Made By AMD's RadeonSI Open-Source Driver In Two Years
The open-source RadeonSI Gallium3D driver has evolved a heck of a lot over the past two years! With the very latest Mesa/LLVM Git code, the numbers are even higher too, but sadly couldn't be reported for this article with the R9 270X. With the newest Git code, RadeonSI is even competing close to Catalyst performance levels.
With OpenGL 4 now being tackled in mesa and the AMDGPU kernel driver maturing, 2016 should be very interesting for the open-source AMD Linux driver stack.
