AMD Ryzen 9 7900X3D Linux Performance
For open-source CAD with BRL-CAD, the Ryzen 9 7900X3D was behind the 7900X -- similar to what we saw in last week's Ryzen 9 7950X3D with it trailing behind the 7950X.
But even for workloads where the X3D parts were behind their X siblings, the increased power efficiency was very meaningful. The Ryzen 9 7900X3D during BRL-CAD was pulling less power than even the Ryzen 7 5800X3D.
When engaging some of the AI workloads such as with Microsoft's ONNX Runtime, the Ryzen 9 7900X3D/7950X3D were performing very well for delivering the best performance in the models able to make use of the large CPU cache.
The entire AMD Ryzen 7000 series line-up with support for AVX-512 also led to great AI performance compared to the AVX-512-less Raptor Lake processors.
OpenVINO wasn't benefiting from the 3D V-Cache with the 7900X3D/7950X3D at least with the current Linux kernel scheduler behavior but was continuing to deliver much better performance and lower power consumption than the Core i9 13900K thanks to benefiting from AVX-512.
