AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D Linux Performance
Before getting to the general purpose workloads in this article, first up is a look at the Ryzen 9 7950X3D gaming performance. The Ryzen 9 7950X3D performance was compared to the Ryzen 9 7950X, Ryzen 9 5950X, and Ryzen 7 5800X3D. On the Intel side was the Core i9 13900K.
The AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX graphics card was used for testing throughout from running the same Ubuntu 23.04 development snapshot while having upgraded to Linux 6.2 and Mesa 23.1-devel.
Even with Linux having not seen much in the way of Ryzen 7900 series 3D V-Cache optimizations unlike Windows, the Ryzen 9 7950X3D was certainly showing off -- with HITMAN 3 running on Steam Play the Ryzen 9 7950X3D was much faster than the Ryzen 9 7950X and then surpassing the Core i9 13900K. The Ryzen 7 5800X3D 3D V-Cache processor also enjoyed better performance out of this Windows game running on Linux. The Ryzen 9 7950X3D was about 9% faster than the Core i9 13900K.
Not only was the Ryzen 9 7950X3D delivering the best overall performance but was also tied with the Ryzen 7 5800X3D for the lowest overall power consumption of the tested processors while running HITMAN 3.
HITMAN 3 running on Linux at 1440p continued showing off great results for the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D as a flagship gaming processor.
