The default settings of the Linux 3.16 kernel and Mesa 10.3-devel were used for testing without setting any non-default environment variables, etc. These performance numbers basically come in line with expectations. For those caught off-guard by the poor Radeon HD 6950 performance, that's long been that way for the Cayman GPU on the open-source Linux driver that it's not nearly as well optimized as the other Radeon HD 6000 series GPUs.

The best performing GPU of the hardware tested is the Radeon HD 7950. In case you're not a religious Phoronix reader, a few months back the RadeonSI Gallium3D driver performance for HD 7000 and Rx 200 series hardware used to be in a rather slow state, but AMD Linux developers have now made it effectively on-par with R600g and the OpenGL state is also now quite mature too.

Aside from the Radeon HD 6770, the other tested AMD GPUs on the latest open-source code could run Unigine Tropics at 1920 x 1080 at 60 FPS and higher.
