Windows 10 vs. Linux OpenGL/Vulkan Driver Performance With Intel Icelake Iris Plus Graphics
Within the few lightweight gaming tests run, Windows 10 was delivering better performance than the current open-source Linux driver stack. But when looking at the graphics performance within Firefox/Chrome, the Java OpenGL performance, and the ParaView scientific visualization software, the Linux performance did pull ahead. In many of those cases, the Linux performance of the Ice Lake Iris Plus Graphics ended up being a great deal faster when switching over to the Intel Gallium3D driver rather than the i965 OpenGL driver default. The Intel "Iris" Gallium3D driver is in very good shape and hopefully for the current Mesa 19.3 cycle they will switch over to it by default.
Throughout all of the Intel Ice Lake graphics testing so far, the Intel drivers have worked well without any stability problems or other issues. Stay tuned for a lot more Linux tests coming from this Intel Core i7-1065G7.
