Intel SSD 760p 256GB NVMe SSD For $99 USD On Linux

First up was an 8GB write test with IOzone. The Intel 760p 256GB SSD was about twice as fast as the older 600p 256GB SSD, but that only put it in line with the Corsair Force MP500 120GB. But on a performance-per-dollar basis still puts it well ahead of that Corsair SSD. Sadly though these M.2 NVMe SSDs were getting beaten out in write speed by the older Crucial/Intel SATA 3.0 SSDs and also by the Samsung 950 PRO. As Windows reviewers have found as well, the 760p SSD's strong point is more on the read side.

During testing with the NVMe drives, the Phoronix Test Suite was also monitoring and recording the drive temperatures. This 760p drive is much cooler than the 760p SSD on this system and the Corsair Force MP500 was the hottest during this write test. But the Samsung 950 PRO M.2 was cooler while the coolest was the Optane 900p 280GB U.2 drive with its PCI-E adapter.

With FS-Mark, the Intel 760p SSD performance was alright in the mix considering its price, but the higher-end solid-state drives carried a much greater punch.

The 760p SSD though continued to operate cooler than the 600p SSD and especially the Corsair Force MP500.
