Linux Power Efficiency Of Skylake, Broadwell, Haswell & Kaveri Compared
The GraphicsMagick results were similar to the FFTW run with the Core i5 Skylake coming in with delivering less performance-per-Watt than the Core i7 Haswell/Broadwell processors. At least Skylake continues delivering significantly better performance-per-Watt than the AMD A10-7870K APU.
OpenSSL was a similar story.
Overall, the Core i5 6600K system had an average AC power draw of 69 Watts compared to the Core i7 4770K at 55 Watts, Core i7 5775C at 78 Watts, and the A10-7870K up at 91 Watts.
If you want to see how your own system compares, simply install the Phoronix Test Suite and run phoronix-test-suite benchmark 1508250-HA-SKYLAKEPO31. If you have a supported power sensor, also set the MONITOR=sys.power PERFORMANCE_PER_WATT=1 environment variables for the power monitoring.
Stay tuned for more Intel Skylake Linux testing in the days ahead on Phoronix.
