IOzone is where system disks and file-systems really begin to be brutalized with the Phoronix Test Suite. We started of by looking at the 2GB write performance using IOzone. XFS offered the best performance in this particular test with an average write speed of 228MB/s. EXT4 pulled in second with a speed of 201MB/s followed by ReiserFS at 155MB/s, EXT3 at 149MB/s, and JFS at 103MB/s. XFS was 220% faster than JFS at this disk test on the 32GB solid-state drive.

When increasing the write size to 4GB, XFS remained in front but the lead between it and EXT4 had tightened. XFS was running at 218MB/s while EXT4 was writing at 210MB/s. EXT3 and ReiserFS were nearly tied for third at 157MB/s while JFS remained in last.

When switching from 4GB writes to reads, EXT4 pulled in for its first win. The IOzone 4GB read performance test had EXT4 positioned in fist followed by EXT3, XFS, ReiserFS, and then JFS. However, judging by the rates, there was some caching involved.
