The Linux 3.0 Kernel With EXT4 & Btrfs

When using the Threaded I/O Tester to test the random write performance with 16 threads of 128MB writes, EXT4 had a very slight advantage on the powerful Intel notebook with the high-performance solid-state drive. Running the slower Pentium M notebook with 5400RPM IDE drive, Btrfs was many times faster than EXT4.

When looking at the 8GB write performance using IOzone, the file-system performance was close for each notebook.

EXT4 did slightly better for both systems when it came to the 8GB read performance.
