The Radeon HD 6800 series or the Rx 200 series from AMD is your best bet for those into Linux gaming and want great performance... The Nouveau driver still will be coming up short at least until sometime in 2015 when re-clocking is in better shape and other bugs addressed -- hopefully with increased cooperation from NVIDIA Corp.

Valve's Steam on Linux games were left out this time since with the current Mesa 10.3 Ubuntu 14.10 packaging the Steam binary was running into OpenGL driver detection issues with non-Intel graphics.
