All of these OpenCL benchmarks were run in a fully automated, repeatable, and standardized manner using the open-source Phoronix Test Suite software in conjunction with OpenBenchmarking.org. For many of these results we've also included GPU thermal and AC system power consumption data too. The AC system power consumption data was monitored by the Phoronix Test Suite through a USB-based WattsUp Pro.

First up was the Parboil scientific benchmark with its LBM workload. The GTX 980 destroyed all of the other contenders and came out much faster than the GTX 780 Ti and R9 290.

The core temperature of the GeForce GTX 980 is modest and better than its competitors during this test case.

The system power consumption of the GTX 980 for this workload is also better off than its competitors and close to that of a Radeon HD 6950.
