What OpenBenchmarking.org Is About & Why It Matters

Linux support is obviously the primary focus of OpenBenchmarking.org, but OpenBenchmarking.org is compatible with any operating system supported by the Phoronix Test Suite. This also means you can utilize all of the same features and results for Mac OS X, Solaris, the *BSDs, and even Microsoft Windows 7.

OpenBenchmarking.org is still a work in progress.

Other items being worked on for OpenBenchmarking.org is automatic spotting of performance / compatibility anomalies and quirks, analyzing real-world upgrade trends and auto-parsing and suggestions based upon uploaded configuration files / system logs that are self-learning based upon all of the available uploaded community data. From the web, you can also construct custom test suites and much more.

From viewing a test profile page you can also find all results that meet a given criteria (e.g. 2560 x 1600 resolution, HDR enabled, sound enabled).

With the Phoronix Test Suite in conjunction with Phoronix Global we proved just how easy it could be to run a benchmark against another set of results via a simple syntax of "phoronix-test-suite benchmark i-20256-29469-2359", but with Phoronix Test Suite 3.0 on Openbenchmarking.org it has made even easier. You can still specify an OpenBenchmarking.org ID, but shipping with Phoronix Test Suite 3.0 is also MIME launcher support for the .openbenchmarking file extension. With the MIME launching support installed, it is simply a matter of clicking on an OpenBenchmarking.org icon from a test result page, test profile, or test suite. From that, the Phoronix Test Suite will automatically start up just as if you had copied and pasted that ID from your web-browser after manually launching the Phoronix Test Suite.

The pre-launch database that powers OpenBenchmarking.org (as of yesterday evening) is made up of 35,681 test results, metrics on 227,132 test completions, 6,540 result files, 68,761 systems, 9,571 industry reviews, and 440,388 computer components.

You can search for a lot more than just CPUs, GPUs, and motherboards. Mice? Keyboards? Network adapters? No problem.
