Playing With Solaris In 2015

Hopefully in 2015 we'll see Solaris 11.3 or the first signs of Solaris 12, or at least some revitalization of some of the open-source community Solaris derivatives riding off Illumos.

One of the key features of Solaris is the first-rate ZFS file-system support, but at least the BSD distributions (primarily FreeBSD) have been moving along well in their ZFS file-system support. OpenZFS has been improving open-source ZFS and the ZFS support on Linux has also been advancing through ZFSOnLinux.

I'll see about getting this latest Solaris version booted up on some other hardware around here that's more relevant for Solaris vs. BSD vs. Linux benchmarking, but otherwise I'll likely wait around until the next Solaris update for the best support. That's it for now about my brief Sunday morning adventure with Solaris at the start of 2015.
