31-Way NVIDIA GeForce / AMD Radeon Linux OpenGL Comparison - End-Of-Year 2016

The tests in this article were done at a mix of 1080p and 4K for being able to run tests on the older cards at the lower resolution while also running many of the tests at 3840 x 2160 in order to be able to effectively stress the newer cards with the different OpenGL Linux games.

The AMD driver tended to hit a wall with almost all of the newer cards at around 93~98 FPS. However, the open-source AMD driver stack tended to perform rather good against the NVIDIA GPUs for this Linux game.

With Dota 2's OpenGL renderer at 1080p, the NVIDIA performance was significantly better. The RX 480 and R9 Fury were coming in around the speed of a GTX 950 and GTX 1050.... The newer cards of course being more CPU bound at 1080p for Dota 2.

So when running Dota 2 at 4K in order to stress the newer cards, NVIDIA was still demolishing AMD. The R9 Fury was coming in around the speed of a GTX 970 and short of a GTX 1060. The RX 480 was about the speed of a GTX 960. Though for those concerned about using open-source drivers and not necessarily the best performance, the results aren't too bad.
