Benchmarks: AMD Ryzen 7000 Series Performance Boosted With Ubuntu 23.10
For the Intel Core i9 13900K Raptor Lake test system the performance was largely the same across the tested Ubuntu Linux releases. The AMD Ryzen 9 7950X system on the other hand was showing off some nice gains on Ubuntu 23.10 -- thanks in large part to switching from ACPI CPUFreq to AMD P-State (active mode) by default. Other autumn 2023 Linux distributions running Linux 6.5+ will see a similar out-of-the-box move for AMD Ryzen (Zen 2 and newer, BIOS supporting ACPI CPPC). From web browser benchmarks to video encode tests and more, the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X was showing off some nice improvements with Ubuntu 23.10. For web browser workloads where traditionally Intel CPUs have done well with their single-threaded performance, it narrowed the gap between Zen 4 and Raptor Lake while in the heavier workloads it extended the leads enjoyed by the Ryzen 9 7950X.
Stay tuned for more Ubuntu 23.10 benchmarks over the coming days, including looking at the server performance as well as looking at the open-source graphics driver benefits and more. Ubuntu 23.10 is scheduled for its official release on Thursday.
