4K Ultra HD Graphics Card Testing On Ubuntu 14.04 LTS
The graphics cards that were tested for this article included the:

- NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 2GB
- eVGA GeForce GTX 750 1GB
- NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2GB
- NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 2GB
- NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770 2GB
- NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 Ti 3GB
- XFX Radeon HD 7950 3GB
- Sapphire Radeon R7 260X 2GB
- Sapphire Radeon R9 270X 2GB
- XFX Radeon R9 290 4GB
The selection was limited by hardware we had in our possession and what's compatible with 4K Ultra HD output, which means there's NVIDIA GeForce hardware to play with at Phoronix than AMD when it comes to latest generation components but hopefully that will change going forward with AMD's cooperation.
Testing happened from the AMD A10-7850K "Kaveri" system running Ubuntu 14.04 LTS x86_64 with the Linux 3.13 kernel and Xfce 4.10 desktop. On the NVIDIA sider was the 334.21 binary display driver while the AMD Catalyst driver was fglrx 13.35.5 / OpenGL 4.3.12780. Again, open-source driver tests of 4K Ultra HD will come at a later time with this article just focusing on the binary drivers.
All benchmarking was handled in a fully-automated and reproducible manner using the open-source Phoronix Test Suite software.
