Wine 1.9.17 is the latest bi-weekly release of this open-source software for running Windows programs/games on Linux and other operating systems.

Wine 1.9.17 features better exception handling on 64-bit, improvements to joystick support, more stream support in the C++ runtime, font embedding improvements, more metafile support in GDI+, and various bug fixes. A total of 53 known bugs have been fixed in Wine 1.9.17.

Digging through the change-log, there has been some more work on the d3dx11 code as well as adding NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1000 series detection to wined3d, but doesn't appear that Wine is yet in shape for running Direct3D 11 games with ease. Also sadly nothing to report on the ongoing Direct3D Command Stream Multi-Threading work for boosting Wine's D3D gaming performance.

With Wine switching to time-based releases and the Wine 2.0 release due out this fall, it's beginning to look like it might be a bit of a stretch seeing D3D11 and D3D CSMT all polished for this next stable release. Find out more about Wine 1.9.17 via WineHQ.org.
