AMD EPYC 7642 Benchmarks: The Rome 48 Core CPU That Easily Takes On Intel's Xeon Platinum 8280
The EPYC 7642 easily delivers a much better value than the likes of the Xeon Platinum 8280.
Lastly is a look at the geometric mean for the raw performance of all of the benchmarks carried out from this round of benchmarking. The EPYC 7642 delivered 26.9% better performance than the Xeon Platinum 8280 or in the 2P configurations had a 20.7% lead over the top-of-the-line non-AP Cascadelake dual processor server. A lone EPYC 7642 was almost 30% faster than the previous-generation EPYC 7601 2P server.
Overall at around $5k USD (or potentially even less), the EPYC 7642 48-core delivers terrific performance and value if not wanting to go all the way up the stack to the 64-core EPYC 7742. Additional EPYC 7642 Linux/BSD benchmarks ahead.
