Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.0 Benchmarks On AMD EPYC - Big Speed-Ups Over RHEL7
SQLite was running slightly faster on RHEL 8.0 with its XFS file-system setup compared to RHEL 7.6, but Ubuntu 19.04 and Clear Linux with the latest kernel on EXT4 was faster, but at least not nearly as slow as Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS.
The CloverLeaf hydrodynamics workload was much faster on RHEL 8.0 and actually well ahead of the other Linux distributions tested.
RHEL 8.0 was also running the Rodinia scientific workloads faster, in this case likely due to the GCC8 compiler building the binaries compared to GCC 4.8 on RHEL7.
Intel's Clear Linux still pulls out a few leads over the other Linux distributions when running on AMD's server processors, but not quite as competitive as when on Intel Xeon hardware.
The Java performance was slightly faster on RHEL 8.0 with its stock Java packages compared to what ships in RHEL7.
