AMD Radeon RX 7900 GRE Linux Performance
First up is Counter-Strike 2, which is now part of my Linux gaming benchmark arsenal now that it's been working reliably under Linux across GPU vendors and no longer exhibiting any benchmark hiccups. At 1440p the Radeon RX 7900 GRE could run the first person shooter game with ease and match the GeForce RTX 3080 performance while being slightly behind the GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER. The RX 7900 GRE was delivering around 80% the performance of the RX 7900 XT.
The Radeon RX 7900 GRE performance-per-dollar for Counter-Strike 2 at 1440p under Linux aligned with the value of the RX 7800 XT and RX 7900 XT graphics cards while being behind only the RTX 4060 on the NVIDIA side.
At 4K, the Radeon RX 7900 GRE was running Counter-Strike 2 on Linux with a 104 FPS average while the RTX 4070 SUPER had a 119 FPS average.
On a performance per dollar for CS2 at 4K, the RX 7900 GRE was slightly behind the RX 7900 XT and RTX 4070 SUPER graphics cards at current pricing.
The GeForce RTX 40 series was delivering better performance-per-Watt while running this game at 4K.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider as the last high profile native Linux game port by Feral Interactive saw this Vulkan-rendered game coming in slightly behind the RTX 3080 Ti and RTX 4070 SUPER class performance.
The RX 7900 GRE / RX 7800 XT / RX 7900 XT were delivering the best value of the upper-end graphics cards tested.
But the RTX 40 series did continue to deliver better performance-per-Watt for this native Linux game.
