For the single-threaded workloads, obviously the Amazon cloud doesn't work out as being very compelling.

Hope you found these numbers insightful, entertaining, or at least satisfying your curiosity roughly how different Amazon EC2 current-generation instances compare and how they stack up against bare metal AMD/Intel Linux hardware. Again if you want to see how your own hardware/clouds sit in the mix, simply install the Phoronix Test Suite and then run phoronix-test-suite benchmark 1704225-TR-AMAZONEC235. More results via this OpenBenchmarking.org result file.
